Jude Bellingham has revealed that a move to Liverpool during the summer of 2023 was not as likely as many believed, as his focus was always on joining Real Madrid.
The England midfielder made the switch from Borussia Dortmund to Madrid in July 2023, opting to join the Spanish giants after excelling in the Bundesliga. While several top clubs, including Liverpool, expressed interest in signing him, Bellingham made it clear that Madrid was his ultimate destination.
“Madrid is on Another Level”
Speaking ahead of Madrid’s Champions League clash with Liverpool, Bellingham explained:
“It [a move to Liverpool] wasn’t as close as people thought. There were talks, but when Madrid calls, it’s different. It’s not that other teams weren’t great, but Madrid is on another level.”
Bellingham also acknowledged Liverpool’s quality, noting their impressive performances in the Premier League and Champions League this season. However, his sights were firmly set on Los Blancos, a decision driven by the prestige and allure of the Spanish giants.
On Playing with Trent Alexander-Arnold
When asked about the possibility of teaming up with England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bellingham said:
“I’ll always be by his side with the national team—that’s guaranteed. But he’s a Liverpool player, and talking about his future wouldn’t be respectful. I wish him all the best… just not tomorrow.”
A Champions League Showdown Awaits
Real Madrid will face Liverpool at Anfield midweek in what promises to be an exciting test for both sides. Liverpool is chasing a top spot in the Champions League standings, while Madrid is looking to climb higher after a slow start in the competition’s new format.
As Bellingham prepares to face the club that once pursued him, the 20-year-old’s focus remains on proving why his decision to join Madrid was the right one.
